Surf Therapeutics (Surf Tx) is developing a novel non-invasive, therapeutic US (UStx) device for home use to treat autoimmune and inflammatory disorders, beginning with difficult to treat Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). Our patent-protected transducer design and US parameters allow for safe and effective activation of the Cholinergic Anti-Inflammatory Pathway. This leads to lower levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, less joint damage, and improved clinical disease scores as shown in recent studies of a vagal nerve stimulator (VNS) developed by Setpoint Medical for the same indication. Surf Tx aims to achieve the same improvement in clinical outcomes seen with VNS, but with an at home device that doesn’t require a major surgery under general anesthesia or an implantable device with the associated risks.
